Renacimiento en el siglo XVI y el barroco del siglo XVII, momento de gran esplendor cultural en Villanueva de los Infantes, caracterizado por la presencia activa de grandes personajes de las Artes y de las Letras como el el gram\u00e1tico y fil\u00f3logo Bartolom\u00e9 Jim\u00e9nez Pat\u00f3n. Llamado por Men\u00e9ndez Pidal \u00abel or\u00e1culo de los d\u00f3mines manchegos del siglo XVII\u00bb, Jim\u00e9nez Pat\u00f3n regent\u00f3 la c\u00e1tedra de Humanidades en la Casa de los Estudios. Trab\u00f3 amistad con Francisco de Quevedo, autor culto, libre e insobornable que leg\u00f3 a la literatura universal una de las m\u00e1s vastas, complejas y variadas obras de su historia. De hecho se aloj\u00f3 en su casa en diversas ocasiones, sobre todo cuando necesit\u00f3 las medicinas de la farmacia que exist\u00eda en Villanueva de los Infantes. En abril de 1645 se traslad\u00f3 al Convento de Santo Domingo en Villanueva de los Infantes, donde falleci\u00f3 el 8 de septiembre de ese mismo a\u00f1o. La celda del convento donde pas\u00f3 sus \u00faltimos d\u00edas a\u00fan se conserva y se puede visitar. Su cuerpo fue inhumado en la cripta de los Bustos de la Iglesia de San Andr\u00e9s.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column la mala relaci\u00f3n de Jim\u00e9nez Pat\u00f3n con Cervantes y su curiosa reacci\u00f3n sobre todo en el pr\u00f3logo de la Primera Parte del <em>Quijote<\/em>, el cual debi\u00f3 de entender como un ataque casi personal.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-25 elementor-top-column elementor-element se improvisa, la venta de libros en Villanueva de los Infantes est\u00e1 constatada al menos desde 1572 por el librero de la villa Miguel de Morales. Es muy significativo se\u00f1alar que la primera versi\u00f3n traducida del ingl\u00e9s al castellano de la Utop\u00eda (1516) de Tom\u00e1s Moro, es realizada en Villanueva de los Infantes en 1637 por Jer\u00f3nimo Antonio de Medinilla y Porres, gobernador del Campo de Montiel. La obra va precedida por diversas aprobaciones y de los propios Bartolom\u00e9 Jim\u00e9nez Pat\u00f3n y Francisco de Quevedo.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Cerca o lejos de la Corte, las compa\u00f1\u00edas de c\u00f3micos m\u00e1s o menos importantes ten\u00edan a su disposici\u00f3n patios de Comedias en poblaciones importantes del centro peninsular como Alcal\u00e1 de Henares, Almagro y Villanueva de los Infantes. De aquel Corral de Comedias, ubicado en la calle del juego de pelota, se conserva parte del dintel en la portada de la casa que hace rinc\u00f3n en la plazuela del doctor Alberdi, enfrente de la Casa del Arco.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p style=\"text-align: justify;\">A todo lo mencionado tambi\u00e9n debemos a\u00f1adir figuras como la del arquitecto Francisco Cano, el dramaturgo Juan de Cueto y Mena, el pintor y grabador Mat\u00edas de Arteaga y Alfaro, el escritor asc\u00e9tico Antonio de Molina, y los humanistas Pedro Collado Peralta y Diego Ram\u00edrez.
